I’m glad you decided to stop by. As a writer, developer and general creator of niftyness, I welcome you to my site. It’s my hope you find what you need and can use what you find. I’m here to help others who are looking for a little push in the entrepreneurial direction. Whether it is seasoned experience you seek or just the right motivational phrase, your success is my success.
Gotta start somewhere.
First off, I am a public school teacher by trade- a language arts teacher to be specific. As any other typical public school teacher, I don’t make much money. No surprise there. But hey, life’s for the living, right? Who needs to accumulate a bunch of… stuff. I can honestly say that of the hundreds of teachers, administrators and prospective student teachers I have talked to and worked with in the education world, not one of them said, “I went into education for the money…”
My family and I have to run a fairly tight economic ship. That’s a reality for most any ordinary American family. While I won’t complain of our particular place in the economic ladder, I mention it here to show the ground base from which I start. For the purpose of this background information, please take it that I have had very little capital for building a business. The term “shoe string budget” applies liberally in my circumstance.
Create a creative creation?
I have always been the creative sort. I’m not particularly super-talented in any given area, I’m more of a generalist in skills. I do like being a part of any process that creates. When most people hear the word “creative” they are likely to imagine music, art, drama and the like. While I certainly appreciate these aspects of the creative form, I am also interested in the creating part of creativity.
My father loves to build things, maybe I get it from him. There is something noble in the process of creating something new, something from which there was none. Whether it is a tangible product, a reliable service or even the passing on of knowledge- making or giving something new to the world is something that fulfills me. That’s why I started the blog. That’s why I jumped into education. That’s why I write songs for my band. And of course, that’s why I decided to look at creating apps for the iPhone.
Technology in the palm of your hand.
In my personal “geekdom” the iPhone represents the best of tech, the best of functional form and style. I don’t believe I am what some call a “fanboy” of Apple, I just really like all that the iPhone has to offer. Having a GPS enabled, internet-ready computer in your pocket empowers you. Being able to record or recall virtually any type of information at any time gives almost unlimited potentials. I am beginning to see other platforms and products that are gaining traction in this field, but at this time I still see the iPhone in the lead.
Me + Tech + Create = ?
Put all this together and you get this: Develop My Life LLC. The hope is that I can turn some extra time into something that provides a little extra income while giving me an opportunity to create something new. My greatest hope is that by going through this process, I will be able to take what I learn and help others follow their own creative dreams. I realize that the app market, both in creation and development, is fiercely competitive. Because of this, not in spite of this, I am looking forward to seeing where the ideas lead. I like a good plan but I also love not knowing what lies just around the corner. Here’s to the adventure that is creating something new!
